It seemed to me that the police had long enough to determine he had no gun in his hand. It also appeared as if the man posed no imminent threat to their lives based on where the officers were positioned and where the young man was standing at the time they began shooting. Even if they felt real threat and compelled to shoot to protect themselves, why shoot so many times? Why shoot to kill? Reports are that the young man had a history of mental illness.
