I am not pointing any fingers, or calling anyone out personally. I am calling us all out on a whole with this comment: Not one person showed up to the Master Gardeners meeting Monday evening that was not already a member. I am the first person to scream out I have way too much on my plate to do as it is! As I said, this was an important meeting to discuss different projects ahead and the status of projects undertaken this year to date. There have been several comments made here and elsewhere - rightly noted I may add - that some of our public gardens and plantings around the city were looking rough this summer. Several times we have asked for help. Your community groups need HELP. HANDS. BODIES in motion working together. Many folks say there is nothing to do in Connersville. Not every community group or activity will be your cup of tea. But you will never find one that fits your schedule, interests, skills and desires if you never even try. This will never be the total solution, but if we support our local groups in their activities we will create more things for folks to do here. Go plant a flower, clean a sidewalk, join a theater group, sing in a choir, paint a picture, sculpt a work of art, take photographs of your neighborhood, ask a librarian to help you find something to do, go walk a trail in the woods, go quilt with some friends, work on model trains, stack cups with kids, see what the Boys club needs help with or what fun can be had there, ask the Link office what you can teach at one of the after school programs, go to the Senior center and see what things there are to do there, or ask them what you can help with or bring there, go to the Hope Center and see what help they need, rake leaves for someone, trim some brush back, take a walk at one of our MANY school tracks, sidewalks and parks, learn how to carve with the wood carvers group at the Art Association, stop at the farmers road stands and farmers markets, offer to baby sit some children once in a while to give parents a chance to do these things too, audit a class at Ivy Tech or IUEast, teach someone a new skill...the list goes on and on and there are things I dont even have a clue about that others do all the time that contribute to the good in our community. With all the bad that goes in in the world we need to pull together as a community and build up what is good and strong and right. No more complaining, just get out there and do ONE THING TO HELP. Even if you choose to do one thing each year and make it YOUR THING, then do it. And then encourage others that are doing their thing too. It is hard to keep doing good and keep putting yourself out there and keeping a good attitude. Encourage, help, and inspire folks, just do that, just do that.
