I am not sure if due to Extreme Couponing on TLC that the word stockpile has gotten such a bad wrap or when it started but stockpile is not a dirty word! According to Merriam-Webster dictionary one definition of stockpile is "a gradually accumulated reserve of something." I have fond memories of watching and helping my grandmas, aunts and mom when I was young can and freezing items that were fresh. It was then stored on shelves in their cellars or basements to use throughout the year. I remember during my high school days coming home and raiding the closet in the kitchen (no bigger than a small clothes closet) for cookies, popcorn and other items for a snack! My parents several times would buy 1/2 a cow or pig and filling a freezer with meat that would last us for months. I guess as the cost of food items has gone up and world of ready made foods that we live in today has made having extra on hand for a rainy day old fashioned. Maybe it just needed rejuvenated so that it seem new again! I encourage your to create a small and manageable stockpile. Devote just a small space in a closet or corner in a basement that you can use to store extra items when you find a good deal! You will be surprised at how savings can add up quickly and start to stretch you budget!
