I am not sure if this is a general case, but I just realised that you truly appreciate and enjoy your language when you start being close to fluent in another one. I enjoy so much how my Russian sounds, each word is a treasure and I like the tingle of it on the tip of my tongue, and how it sounds in my ears... One might say I sound a bit funny but because I enjoy the language so much, I pronounce every sound as it deserves it dearly, whereas others just hurry and see no beauty enough in the language, using it as a tool, not an art. I may say I am jealous of myself of having the honour knowing such a rich language
