I am not sure what genre this group falls in. I realize there is a lot of criticism of new Nashville and eclectic-country, and I tend to agree most of the time, but something about this band touches me. I suppose it is that it reminds me of one of the bands my dad wrote for years ago which brought rock sensibilities into a country format with brilliant lyrics. They were easily three decades ahead of their time. Ultimately, on a personal level, there are two genres of music. That which moves us in some way and the rest. Blues, Classical, Rock, Country, Renaissance, Whatever-Label-You-May-Choose makes no difference in the end. Either music speaks to our shared humanity and helps you understand the human experience on a personal level; or it doesnt. It is an entirely personal matter. For some it is Rap, for others Opera. Either way, that is just alright; there is room in the world for all. Even Bing Crosby sang with David Bowie. Lets just hope the folks in Nashville start to understand this, stop beating up on each other, and just make music; good, bad, and in-between. I plan on listening to some Cash and Callas today.
