I am now banned from deep philosophical talks about the after life. One of the minions was asking about how sick I really was and it was clear he was worried. Ive never been one to talk down to one of the kids. If they ask a question, Ive always given them the consideration of thoughtful, truthful answer. Sometimes that answer is I dont know, but Ill offer my best theories and advice on finding out more information. So I did the same thing with this conversation and said to the minion, Whats the worst possible outcome? That I die, right? Well, thats actually not so bad at all because Im really content with the life Ive lived. Ive got to meet lots of cool people and travel to some really amazing places, write stories that thousands of people have read, had a single perfect afternoon (as defined by me when I was about 14, but still...) married the love of my life, and raised 4 great sons. Ive accomplished so much, who could be unhappy about that? I basically told him exactly what would have comforted me. Nothing is more depressing to me than a life that feels unfinished. Someone who dies before they manage to enjoy the fruits of their labor or die without seeing the end results of something theyve spent so much time working on. My life has been the opposite of that. Ive lead a really fulfilled and happy existence. Im good, thanks. @husband wasnt pleased with me. I guess he thought I wasnt being sentimental enough or something? I kinda think thats unfair though because its my hypothetical death were talking about so dont I pretty much get to feel however I want about it? Im sure not going to waste any time being afraid of it or mourning what might have been. If Im meant to leave this world due to a booger sized blood blob in my brain, well, its not a very dignified way to go, but whatevs. There are worse. Anyway, Id like to point out, for the record, that I dont even think Im going to die. Thats just the worst possible outcome. All Im saying is that is if thats the worst, then none of them are really all that terrible, right?
