I am on day 11 of my no poo experiment. For those who dont know - TopicsExpress

I am on day 11 of my no poo experiment. For those who dont know what that is yet, no poo just means that you dont wash your hair with shampoo/conditioner anymore. No poo = no shampoo Thus far, I am really enjoying the results. I have no desire to switch back to my old Dove shampoos and conditioners, and if decide at the end of my 30 day self-trial that I want to continue, I am going to save SO much money. With no poo, the general concept is to wash your hair with baking soda diluted in water, and to condition it with ACV (apple cider vinegar). When I first posted a link about it, it was discussed with some friends, and someone even posted a video where a woman tried to explain why she felt the BS/ACV washing shouldnt be done. However, in doing further research, and reading/watching dozens of testimonies, I decided the best way to find out was to test it myself... After all, every persons hair is different, and from what I concluded, BS, though alkaline, is still much less harsh that the chemicals found in traditional shampoos. I also concluded that because BS IS alkaline, that this method is not meant to be used every day. In fact, once your transition phase is over and your hair stops over-producing oil (caused by the fact that shampoos continuously strip your hair of all its natural oils forcing your hair to swiftly produce more), the idea is to only need to wash your hair once a week. It sounds crazy at first, but once you commit to trying it out yourself and seeing the whole transition, you realize how much healthier your hair has the potential of being. The hardest part of this journey is not giving up. You HAVE to allow your hair to adjust. After years of being stripped of its natural oils, followed with being coated with chemicals such as silicone, your hair has to be given time to change ITS routine, too. The first couple days or weeks you could be dealing with greasy, dry, and/or waxy hair. Your hair type will determine the transition length. Luckily for me, my transition has mild, and it seems the worst of it is over. In fact, yesterday I had one of the best hair days Ive EVER had. I washed my hair the day before that, so yesterday I just rinsed my hair with water in the shower as directed. (Again, you can not and should not wash your hair everyday) After my hair was mostly dried, I noticed that though my hair was soft, it appeared kind of greasy and flat on top. So, I decided to try out another trick i had read about. They call it using dry shampoo, which is usually corn flour and/or cocoa powder. CP of course shouldnt be used on light blonde hair, but for my hair color it blended perfect. I started with just a sprinkle on top of my hair and brushed it through, and then put a sprinkle on my hands so that I could rub it into the area underneath that felt greasy. I was SO impressed in the change the cocoa powder made. It not only soaked up any greasiness, but once distributed evenly, gave my hair so much more volume!!! I didnt have to do another thing to my hair the entire day. The CP almost worked as hairspray, stiffening it less than HS, so that it was still soft, but also holding my natural curls and waves. The best part was CP smells delicious, so I got to smell yummy all day instead of smelling like a bottle of hair spray. I wish I had taken a picture, but I will try to do so today! :) I think at the end of 30 days Ill write an official blog about my experience. Maybe I can help/encourage others to go chemical free, too! Next step is to learn to make my own body scrubs! Chemical free is the way for ME! :)
