I am only alarmed bcus of d way pple av rightly reacted but wrongly overreacted. I remember that i av often stressed dat apart frm fans who are loyal and true lovers, who care; the players and admins may not care much. Such is d case of ref marriner. B4 i continue, HAVE U NOT SEEN REFS, ASKING PLAYER X OR Y TO TURN AROUND AND THEN WRITE THEIR NAMES? OR WAIT FOR PLAYER X TO TURN AND BACK THEM B4 WRITING THEIR NAMES? If no, then start taking note. If yes, then av u ever asked y some refs do dat? I once watched a game, a ref booked a player then used his hands to gesture turn back. The player did and then ref wrote his name. GUESS WHO THE PLAYER WAS? It was Demichelis. Then i told myself, this ref nor know martin demichelis name or he nor sabi spell am? IF YOU DONT KNOW MY NAME, THEN U DONT KNOW ME. Marriner obviously didnt know oxlades. All he knew was dat d guy was a black-white colour, a kinda low cut afro hairstyle, etc. Gibbs too had similar hair cut and skin colour and to mr referee, it was the guy. Wat an error. I agree but this issue is wat i av thought out b4. Last year, rafael nadal said he watched football more than tennis. If a sportsman can watch another sports more than his own; then we can argue dat nadal knows more footballers by name than tennis stars. In nigeria, refs are paid btw 40k and 80k per game depending on the clubs and the citys cost of living. HMMMM. I know a teacher from idogbo pri schl, who got a link; he refs one game every saturday. To this teacher, his business isnt about knowing players by name but earning his money. Though he would knows some players by name but not all. If marriner doesnt watch football when hes at home, if he doesnt monitor football via the net; would he know more players other than rooney, ozil, hazard and the popular guys? That ur pundit status makes u so good wit players doesnt mean oxlade, gibbs, jones, romeu, etc are so popular. ITS THE TRUTH. We av people who watch football games yet cant name barcas 2nd xi or inters first xi how much more a ref whos got no biz monitoring players when hes free. Marriners mistake was taking his eyes away instead of keeping eyes on oxlade. Many refs are just like marriner but they av found a way to hide their fault by blowing d whitsle, keeping an eye on the target players and calling the captain (if the place is crowded). If u are mocking marriner for not knowing oxlade, i think u are harsh (hes not a fan and not a soccer pundit, hes just working for salary). The only contest here is that he didnt use experience, he could av asked the arsenal captain. (refs do it)
