I am opposed to co-ops, non profits and communes, generally speaking, for the same reason I oppose government and corporate management of resources. They suck resources from the wider community/world, centralizing them in the hands of a self-selected unaccountable group who possess a monopoly on legitimacy, and by their very existence, make it harder for people outside of these networks to find the resources they need, to address their needs. Until a revolutionary premise becomes fundamental to these concepts, and they start putting more focus on outreach and networking, building capacity and movements, they are at best useless to the wider world... at worst, they are detrimental to antiauthoritarian revolutionary efforts. We have to find a way to ground so called "alternative" institutions within a broader movement based strategy for revolutionary social change, or they will continue to be self serving, and detrimental to our efforts.
