I am overwhelmed with emotion as I report that as of this morning the #ALS #icebucketchallenge has now raised $31.5 million dollars!!! In my darkest days after my diagnosis before I had heard of the stem cell trial I would be so frustrated because I would hear comments like what is ALS, a Doctor had just told me I should ensure I have a will, and a living will and I felt all alone because no one knew what #ALS was. I have tried to raise awareness and be an advocate for the ALS community and while I work hard at it my success is limited and I often have said that it is somewhat like chipping away at an iceberg it is a long and slow process. Except now everyone has taken that iceberg turned it into little cubes and dumped it and turned that block of ice into the awareness and funding I have so desperately wanted to see. Even today there is a video of Former President and Commander in Chief George Bush taking the challenge and he challenged President Clinton. Thanks to Pete Frates for taking a novel idea he had seen on the internet and turning it into a global phenomenon. Thank you to all of you, friends, family and strangers alike who have taken the challenge, helped to raise money and continue to make this a viral sensation. Rest assured that your donations are going to a superb cause and I hope someday soon I can come back and report to all of you that because of all of your generosity a cure has been found for this insidious disease.
