I am posting this as an act of good faith and in the spirit of honesty and fairness to my opponent in the State’s Attorney’s race, Andy Meehan, and to his brother Steve, regarding an inaccuracy in my campaign mailer. I respect Andy and have known and enjoyed a good relationship with Steve for many years. The mailer indicated that Andy became a member of the Kent County Bar Association this year. That assertion, which has turned out to be incorrect, was based on my observing his swearing in ceremony in the Circuit Court back in January. Because I did not wish to present inaccurate information or engage in dirty politics, I corroborated my understanding of that event by using what I believed it to be the official record, and only public record, of an individual becoming a bar member: the Kent County Circuit Courts test book. I have since learned, however, that Andy has, in fact, been a dues paying member since 2002. Kent County has a small and cordial legal community. In order to do everything I can to cure my unintentional error, and in an effort to minimize potential hard feelings, I have made a personal apology to Andy and am once again publicly acknowledging my honest mistake and offing my apology to all concerned.
