I am proud of all those women who live alone in this city (Delhi) - TopicsExpress

I am proud of all those women who live alone in this city (Delhi) and all over India. Those who travel alone in public transport and walk through the crowded bazars. I have been living in Delhi for more than 8 years and have experienced difficulties at every step; so much that there was a time when I loathed men. With time I learned like many other women that the best thing to do was to be smart and avoid getting into “situations”. But, no matter how much one is careful lewd comments like “chamak challo” “kya item hai” ‘slurpy sounds’ ‘tongue sticking out’ “horny gaze” ‘stalking’ ‘flying vulgar kisses’ ‘weird disgusting sounds’ ‘groping’ and more are part of roadside experience. We are so used to stuff like this that we actually have adapted to completely ignore these comments. The truth of the matter is that this does not happen only in Delhi but all over India, such characters are in plenty. In spite of the lack of security women in this country are bold and ready to stand up for themselves. They have the guts to defy all unnecessary and illogical social norms and come out, and explore freedom and that is the beginning of a revolution! - Masrat Khan
