I am proud to say that I am about to have ten grand-ducklings in a couple of days! Every day I give mama (I named her Dorice) fresh water and some ritz crackers. Today I sang to her. At first she seemed a bit irritated by it. Suddenly, after I started singing grapefruit moon, I swear, she started quacking along with me. We are good friends now. She has a thing for Tom Waits. I sang the Piano has been drinking, and I thought I heard her quack yeah, right. Anyway, from a distance, I counted ten eggs. two short of a dozen. It is so cute, she waddles back to the nest after drinking her water from her special bowl. I love watching her poke around cleaning the eggs, adding nesting feathers, and then she gently pushes her butt in the air and back down, and parks her self on them to give them the warmth they need. I am very careful not to get too close of she will abandon the nest. I am taking suggestions for names. I was thinking along the lines of Plato (not play dough), Socrates, Aristotle, Descartes, Homer, Hippocrates, Alexander or Alexandria, you get the drift. Just not daffy.
