I am ready to admit that I never read the scripts for our shows. - TopicsExpress

I am ready to admit that I never read the scripts for our shows. Ha! Its true! I skim them over to get the gist of the story, and figure out where I need to plug in songs, but I never actually know whats going to happen in detail. I do this intentionally so that I dont get tired of the story itself, like I often do after rehearsing the songs for months! The beauty in this is that when we come up on production week, its all new to me, and I am brought into the story with fresh eyes and ears..... and what always seems to happen is I am overcome with awe and pride for our students and the incredible work they have done, and the amazing growth they demonstrate from show to show, and year to year. This week has been no exception, in dress and tech rehearsals for The Snow Queen. Whats even MORE ironic is that I, myself, was in a production of this show with the MN Opera back in my teens! So, I KNOW the story.... except, I had forgotten... and have now re-discovered this magical tale. Not only have I been completely enchanted all week by the acting and singing and dancing, but by our school - our FAMILY - as a whole. Teachers, students, parents.... we are all so familiar, so much a part of each others days and weeks, and each of these shows is another milestone in our growth together as artists and performers. I have felt particularly proud all week - not just of my singers, and how far theyve come - but of my OWN performance in this show, as it is my contribution to this meaningful collective. Shows are tonight and tomorrow at 7pm at Eastview High School in Apple Valley. If you need some inspiration in your life, or a little bit of magic, theres a seat waiting for you.
