I am really sympathetic towards my fellow Bajan colleagues who will have to drop out of UWI, Cave Hill due to the introduction of tuition fees, but I can not help but think that many of these students brought the current situation on to themselves. I will walk pass a group of students in the lobby of Roy Marshall or under the trees by Roy Marshall at 8 am in the morning playing dominoes and upon leaving campus at 8 pm in the evening they are still there. I am sure the government isnt paying their tuition fees so that they can come and play dominoes- they can stay home and do just that. These are some of the very same students who often times end up spending 5 years to complete a 3 year degree. They are merely wasting the government resources. However, with that being said, I think the government should have handle the situation differently and probably implement a phase by phase programme or to make it mandatory that students must complete their degree in the stipulated time upon which failure to do so would result in these students paying for the remaining years, but then again is education a right or a privilege?
