I am reproducing Jay Srinivasan important comment below - I have been waiting for someone else in the IAGB EC to respond to Jays comments and I feel we owe him a response - but no one else seems inclined. The subject of whether to attempt to do IAGB India Day at Hatch Shell has been hotly debated within the EC. Last year, when we had to cancel at Hatch Shell due to the excessive costs, we got angry comments from community members. But this year, as we are attempting to rejuvenate Hatch Shell, the donations from the community are exceedingly poor and will come nowhere close to covering the costs. There are several EC members that agree with Jay (including myself). The worry from others in the EC is that if IAGB picks some affordable low key location (such as a High School, say), and possibly even charges for entry, it would be just like any other organization - and there are many of them. Some of us in the EC feel we need to go back to the drawing board, redo the IAGB ByLaws, and figure out our reason for being. IAGB should represent connections between the US and India, maybe even connections between people of South Asian origin in Boston and other diaspora groups. It would take a lot of work from EC members to mingle in the various community groups. If you have an opinion, such as Jay Srinivasan, please comment here. Thank You All. --------------------------------------------------- Jay Srinivasan I am personally of the view that spending $60000 for security details is a waste of money. IAGB can probably use that money for other worthwhile projects. Hatch Shell events are meant for a crowd of Million people gathering. We may get about 10000+ people in the IAGB event, which is not much compared to the capacity. It is like have small little league baseball team match in Fenway park. My preference would be to have this in a large auditorium or basketball arena of a local college etc. By this way the event will be full ! Just my humble opinion , for what it is worth ! Use the portion of the money to feed the hungry Americans at local soup kitchen on Aug 15th and that will make us lots of friends, instead of fattening the pay checks of security officers ! By the way is the donations to IAGB tax deductible? I dont seem to find the Form 990 of IAGB in the following web site ! guidestar.org/
