I am requesting some helpful explanations as to why my viol sounds like a creaky old person just getting out of bed in the morning when I first begin to practice for the day. After a while it seems like she gets limbered up and then starts sounding great. I think it has to do with the gut strings, and maybe warming up/becoming more flexible? Or maybe its the wood getting more resonant? Or both. I notice this as a norm. After practicing for an hour or so it just starts sounding good. This is distinct from my own warming up. Its really the instrument. Im so curious to know what makes this happen. This phenomenon makes the viol feel a bit like a living being. Thanks for your thoughts.
