I am shocked after hearing the news of the ethnic violence at lower Assam - NE part of India, which took the lives of more than 70 people , mostly women and children, through indiscriminate firing by an insurgent outfit near India-Bhutan border. The victims were mostly from the aboriginal communities living in the periphery of the main society. It reminded me the similar ugly incidents that happened in Guatemala in 1967 with a bid to cleansing domestic Indians by the rightist forces ! Surely, the objective of such ghastly incidents to grab lands and properties from the tribal inhabitants while the fortunate survivors opt for a secured place out of fear and apprehension, leaving their farm lands and meager properties behind ! I would not be surprised , if I find one day that those empty lands are converted in to a recreational resort to be inaugurated by a Central Minister !
