I am so grateful my surgery was successful. I just received word from someone in a heart valve support group I attend that her cousin died suddenly as they were preparing to take her in for surgery last week. It was an aortic repair/replacement that was slightly more complicated than mine but also being done on an emergency basis. Things like this really make us realize just how fortunate we are. I just cant imagine the sorrow of one cousin, just one month out from her successful surgery, attending the funeral of the other cousin who was going in to have the exact same procedure and didnt make it. Immense sorrow for their family.
