I am so proud of this teacher who is taking a stand. This situation is horrible. When I first started teaching in 1960 there was no public kindergarten. The First Grade teachers administered a Readiness test to determine which pace to teach reading. Those children who were ready to learn (could sit still for more than 15 minutes, knew most of the sounds of the letters, could count to 10 etc. were deemed ready to continue to learn to read. Then they were placed in reading groups which were constantly changing as the year went by. I am so sad to see the joy of learning be eliminated from the curriculum and replaced with more tests!
