I am so sick of people blaming social media and technology for their depression and isolation rather than taking responsibility themselves. If you are depressed and jealous because you consistently compare your life to the Best Of reels of others, then thats on YOU. Own it and snap the heck out of it. No more of this boo-hoo-her-life-is-better-than-mine crap. Go out and actually get a life. You still have to converse with people face-to-face, you know. Long, awkward pauses, and periods of non-activity occur in everybodys lives. A photo album of someones James-Bond-like adventures on vacation wont reveal those silent, awkward moments because its intent is to showcase the highlights. If you cant understand that, then thats your problem, not Facebooks, not Tumblrs, nor the fault any other form of social media. YOU need to get over it. Do something about it. May I suggest you quit your blubbering and actually live in the real world more than the virtual one? The real world doesnt cease to exist just because you live through your computer. Close the thing and go talk to a friend - like, face-to-face, in person. Just a thought. If you suffer from anxiety or depression or another issue that did not stem from your misunderstanding and subsequent misuse of social media, then obviously Im not talking to you. Im talking to people like myself who have no genuine anxiety and depression issues, but are lazy enough to favor the ease and convenience of the virtual one. Early on, I realized that if I had a problem it was MY problem. Facebook is fun, but it is in no way a substitute for real life. If someone fails to understand that, then I shudder to think that I breathe the same air as them.
