I am so thankful to have this apartment here at Shepherds. Its attached to the Shepherd parking garage. So all we have to do is walk across the garage , and I have been across that garage 10 times today. Beats the heck out of driving! Today I took Jon David to exercise class then went on a walk again with Kim and Carrie Ann for about 30 min. I has 3 full hours to myself this morning because after Jon Davids class he went on a grocery store outing! Which of course he pronounced as stupid, but they had to find stuff on a list then work on pulling it off the shelf. Not sure how that went, because he is not much on details, but I was thrilled he went anywhere with someone else. Its a safe environment to learn new things in, everyone is learning and no one is staring.....hes not different here. So Im hoping he will take more chances. He is really working on his eating....actually ate three meals and two snacks today! If he keeps this up, he should put on some weight. After lunch he had PT and OT. They worked on him rolling over and the OT is going to gave some custom splints made to stabilize his wrist and it will have a slit to add utensils that he can eat with. We ended the day with a conference with all his team members, PT, OT, Rec Therapy, Nurse and Case Manager. They recapped all his goals and we signed them. They then meet with the Doctors and determine how long we will be here. We will have a discharge estimate date tomorrow. That of course is subject to change. But we /they have an ambitious rehab plan, and I think we will get it done. Ill share the list of goals we came up with: Feeding and Grooming himself Transferring himself from bed to chair Learning to use his tablet / computer/ phone independently (YES!) Develop core strength Work on finger movement Move himself in manual chair ( he really wants to do this, but his therapist do not think his body / shoulders are ready) Gain weight and get stronger. Most inpatient stays last 2-6 weeks. I expect we will be here longer and look at their Beyond Therapy Program. Who knows. His skin issues are making positive improvements...thank goodness! Its been stressing Jon David (and me )out. Dave is heading to Atlanta tomorrow afternoon, with a load of forgotten stuff. All Ive heard today is that a terrible storm will be hitting Little Rock area about the time he is scheduled to leave and will hit Atlanta later that night. Not ideal travel conditions.....please pray that Dave has a safe trip! Also I will be praying for all of YOU, because I know the forecasters are very worried about tornados tomorrow! I would like to ask that you please pray for Chris ONeal who was in a horrible motorcycle accident and is being treated at UAMS. He is in very critical condition. His brother Shaun ONeal works at UAMS ICU, and very lovingly helped care for Jon David when he was there. Prayers for his brother would be much appreciated! This weekend we are looking forward to resting and recovering. With Dave here, I will get a break and sleep in and I expect Jon David will be catching up on his sleep also. We are all beyond tired and we are ready to spend some quiet down time with Dave doing nothing. Thank you for the encouraging words and support this week, we love all of you and appreciate you more than you know! Love, Jacki
