I am sometimes so embarassed at my ignorance of the world around me. The other day in Myanmar, I asked a friend if he had been to China. Beijing? Shanghai perhaps! No, he replied, but he had been to Chongqing. Chong, what? I asked, unable to get the name at one go. Chongqing, he repeated, and explained that it is one of the bigger cities in China. Must be, I thought, and pictured a provincial Chinese town in my head. How wrong could I be! The worlds fastest growing city is so close to the Indian border and yet how blissfully unaware we are.
