I am starting an Honours degree. In Australia, this is the step between a degree and a PhD. I have completed a 4 yr degree in Nutrition and Dietetics. My Honours is a research project Exploring the nutrition philosophies of practicing Dietitians. My conceptual framework around how I define philosophies are the concepts from Aristotle episteme, techne, and phronesis. In other words - types of knowledge and pathways to knowledge etc. I have read so many studies that use conceptual framework and theoretical framework interchangeably. I have not met any qualitative professors who are keen for me to state the premise that via the process of triangulation and constant comparison I remove myself as much as possible from the data. Nobody believe this is possible. So, I have come to the conclusion that stating a personal theoretical framework prior to the methods and defending my use of GT and doing a spiel on why I chose which GT is going to be necessary, as well as encapsulating my analysis within the concepts I hope to explore re dietetic practice. This, I hope, will work well considering that I only have 10 months to complete the thesis. In short, I am using a conceptual framework to define what I mean by exploration of philosophies in my title and I will then be using a theoretical framework(developed over the analysis period) to state my position as a researcher. Does this seem kosher?
