I am still a snob at heart when it comes to art and entertainment. - TopicsExpress

I am still a snob at heart when it comes to art and entertainment. Over the years however I have become more pragmatic. If a film succeeds at what it set out to accomplish its a success no matter how much I may hate the content. This is why the late Roger Ebert will remain the only film critic to win a Pulitzer. He didnt put his taste into his reviews. He considered budgetary restrictions, core audience, cast and crew experience, and intention versus execution. I hate Michael Bay but he accomplishes what he sets out to do. Look sharp, blow stuff up, and throw in some ridiculous fetish references. Thats not the formula my taste enjoys but it is something Bay executes better than most. Tony Scott - smoke up a room, tight frame every bit of your tension, and costume your characters like they all shop at the thrift store. That worked for me, but not everybody. There is something to be said about executing a vision versus appeasing the thumb to nose art snobs. And there one thing Ive learned about most amateur and professional critics. Most of them have no idea how to do the practice they criticize. This has been todays public service announcement.
