I am still learning about safe people vs. punitive people. There are many more people who want to connect than those who want to disconnect though....THANKFULLY!! Those whose goal is to disconnect, will not need a very strong reason....just any reason that will suffice. Those whose goal is to connect, will make every effort to do so, especially after a misunderstanding, or a rebuke, or even an intentional insult! Just as you would not refuse emergency care for a deep wound, NEVER should you refuse repeated attempts to repair, from any reasonable person who injured you (not talking about chronic and true abuse here, thats different). Untended wounds keep bleeding, or they fester and get infected, and they wind up hurting you, the victim, MUCH more than if you allowed healing to come by the invitation of another to reconnect. My wounds do not have the power to hurt another - they only hurt me when untended - and, apart from a supernatural touch from God, only reconciliation and reconnection can heal them! This is how we do relationships, this is how we are healthy people....in body and mind, not just spiritually. Do I hear an amen out there? This is the season to be thankful! Today Im thankful for those healthy individuals in life whose goal in relationships is to understand, and to stay connected through thick and thin!!
