I am sure everyone has by now heard the heightened state of security in effect with embassies closed for a week. My wife returned from a 2 week trip to Germany today and I think there has been an unannounced increase of awareness for a while. Of all the times we each have been to and from Germany customs has never been anything but a formality answering the simple question, "Do you have anything to declare" sufficient coming or going with no baggage checks. Not this trip. Two weeks ago entering Germany the check was very up close and personal to including full pat down, fingers around entire waist band and under the bra. In a first for us when we got home today we found U.S. Officials had cut the lock on her luggage and gone through it leaving a card saying they had been there. That means it is not just the United States that is concerned, but also Germany and I assume all Europe. It also probably did not start day before yesterday.
