I am sure that others may have had this experience....but here goes....I recently decided to contact the VA to establish contact and set up things in case I need some of the freebies for Vietnam War Veterans. Pratt was designated a war zone ship several years ago and Veterans from that cruise only are entitled to pensions and lots of other benefits if you contract certain ailments, including prostate cancer and and a long list of other ailments without proving any connection to specific war activities. A free medical screening exam is also offered without any proof of symptoms. I used the GI Bill in the late 60s and early 70s to get my bachelors degree....so clearly that knew who I was at that time....checks came each month and for that benefit....it changed my life. To gain access to the system you need to access the DEERS system so I tried and could not access after an hour of trying. I sent off the email, as required, and got my response today......This is why I hate my government...and the VA....after putting my life on the line 50 years ago...they do not know that I exist!! I know that I can resolve this....but these are the insults that make all of us wonder what in the heck is going on! I feel like that guy who posted a few days ago showing his burnt medical records!!!
