I am taking a sociology class called Juvenile Justice. This class - TopicsExpress

I am taking a sociology class called Juvenile Justice. This class is very popular with criminal justice and law enforcement majors, so it is very different than the classes full of psychology majors that I am used to. About 85% of the class wants to be police officers. About 90% of the class is white and 3% female (there is a lot of camo). The first thing I am noticing is how gung-ho these guys are, and although I like the professor, he feeds into it. It is shocking to hear some of the words used to describe juveniles and I dont like the way it is trending after just two classes. In just two days the most apparent lesson is where young students get reinforcement for racial- stereotypes. The sinister part of it is that I think that the professor isnt speaking about race, but that is obviously what the students are hearing. That space between messages shouldnt be underestimated. I dont want to offend anyone but from my what I see, first year law enforcement and criminal justice students arent always the most enlightened students the outer ring suburbs have to offer.
