I am thrilled by Mayor Julián Castro’s nomination as the next U.S. Secretary of Housing and Urban Development. In his three terms as Mayor of San Antonio, he has proven himself an exceptionally thoughtful and talented executive. His economic development and housing policies have improved the lives of San Antonio’s residents, including the city’s large Latino population. His thorough understanding of the housing and economic challenges in our country, as well as his record of results, will make him an excellent HUD Secretary and an effective advocate for Latinos, and all Americans, in President Obama’s cabinet. I congratulate Mayor Castro on his well-deserved nomination, and commend the President for making such a distinguished and capable choice.
