I am usually genuinely amused whenever I meet with people on social media who are irked over other people’s comments and viewpoints. During such moments they would flippantly rant, curse, and use all sorts of abusive and derogatory language in a bid to intimidate the person they disagree with. In many instances you would hear such words as hater, bigot etc and they would accuse the person who is simply expressing his views as being “narrow minded! Henceforth, they may even proceed to deleting this said “enemy” from their friends list and with this action feel sated. This attitude is rather worrisome! Like Pharisees, they adopt a holier than thou attitude, and while seated on a pedantic stool, seek to separate themselves from all those who see things differently. They flare up at the slightest of provocations! Is that not funny after all? Who can be more intolerant and narrow minded than that individual who gets enraged when an opposing view is expressed? Who is more oppressive and tyrannical in his actions? Who is more hateful than that individual who deletes you from a friendship list because you share a different view while at the same time choosing to hear of nothing other than that to which he is accustomed? Who can be more narrow minded than that individual who refuses to state his points calmly and who is unable to respond objectively to issues raised? And who becomes irked when he is roused from the dreary slumber in his comfort zone into thinking and seeing differently! With a total lack of decorum and respect, they would, with their absurd feelings of superiority, indeed stupidity, publicly declare that the opposing views are mediocre and base, without calmly being able to substantiate and elucidate further upon their points. From then on, they might even get unduly personal, and so much else that detracts will follow. Such actions only stamp themselves as belonging to an inferior order! Proponents of this school of reasoning fail to see where social media can genuinely be of help to them. They are unable to see where they might be able to gain compassion for other people’s plights and sensitivities, especially when it cuts across continents and cultures, and will gradually be led, albeit often gradually, into a more refined manner of elevating their own consciousness, and eventually, that of their fellow human spirits. Certainly, this will not be achieved until they come down from their high horses! To be knowledgeable is to be open and to be capable of striving for objectivity in all happenings. It means being flexible while maintaining masterliness. It means showing love to your fellow man without being indulgent and unduly permissive! And this, dear traveller, will not be achieved without a great deal of humility… Peace, Love and wisdom, therefore, to all those, who in seeking always find, and who in finding always seek…
