I am usually hesitant to post things about religion or my beliefs, mostly because I dont have the energy to sort through the ignorant hate-mongering and bigotry that inevitably follows. But I have had a revelation. I do not avoid following religion because I believe it to be wrong, stupid, or meaningless. My choice not to follow it is actually much simpler than that. To me, humility is one of the finest virtues any person can possess. Organized religion presents itself as the exact opposite of that. Every major religion is centered on one over-arching theme; worship. In order to gain the reward of eternal bliss, I have to worship some figurehead. I dont know about you, but that seems a little arrogant to me. I have a problem with arrogance, and feel rather subconsciously hard-wired to rebel against it. So its not that your religion is wrong, its that it is arrogant. The entire basis of organized religion is that I am required to worship You, or be punished. Yet you hide behind well Im divine/Im shiny/I have special healing powers/I died for you, and that suddenly makes your arrogance acceptable? Would YOU accept that excuse from somebody trying to convert YOU to THEIR religion? Then why are you trying to use it on me?
