I am very excited to annouce our November super kid! As many of you may know November is national epilepsy awareness month. I am sure some of you remember my journey with Landon at CHOA and Athens Reginal as he battled some pretty big seizures due to epilepsy. Dezy is our 1st girl to hold the Super kid title! She has batted epilesy since she was only 3 years old. There are many different types of seizures and Dezy has what is called clonic tonic nocternal seizures. Until just recently she never slept in her bed alone. Falling asleep is always a concern for both her and her parents. Her seizures occur mostly in the dead of night. She has been on anti-seizure meds for as long as she can remember. For any of you that dont know these meds have very emotional side effects. While they do their job on slowing down seizure activity they also slow down her thinking process. She works harder than most to keep up with others her age and in her grade but she does a fantastic, no a ducky job of it! The scariest part of epilepsy is never knowing when a seizure is going to strike or how severe it will be. Dezy is one brave super girl to battle this everyday with the most courage & heart that one could ever have.
