I am very fond of learning and practice of various forms and types of meditation. I have also got opportunities of exploring Jain, Buddhist and Vedic Meditations namely Preksya, Vipassana, Transcendental, Kriya Yoga and Maha Yoga during last 15 years. Vipassana meditation is second of them. Satya Narayan Goenka is the master of Vipassana popularly known as Insight meditation or Buddhist yoga of mindfulness. The technique of vipassana is to observe the truth of suffering within oneself, how one becomes agitated, irritated, miserable etc. Negative reactions like aversion and craving creates unplesant sensation in the body. But observing the sensation loses its strength. It starts with respiration because the mind does not become concentrated unless it has an object to focus on. The experience of sensation around the nostrils and then gradually throughout the body take us to the root of our mind. Then they take us to the root of the cause of misery, and they help us to eradicate that cause. When the emotions are dissolved at the mental level and the solidity in the body is dissolved at the material level, nothing remains but a mass of vibration, a mass of energy moving in the body. Through sweeping, moving from head to feet and from feet to head, the impurities of the past called sanskaras get shaken and start coming to the surface. In this way Vipassana meditator begin by developing their powers of concentration through the mindfulness of the breath on the inhalation and exhalation. As their ability to concentrate increases, they are taught to use this skill to develop the second form, which is the observation of all aspects of body and mind: sensations, sights, sounds, thoughts and emotions through accepting it with equanimity whatever manifests itself. Then the ability to observe our mind and body with a degree of non-judgemental detachment becomes an inseparable part of us and our awareness permeates every activity including every communication. It becomes a way of life.
