I am wondering if there are any younger collectors in this group - TopicsExpress

I am wondering if there are any younger collectors in this group who passionately love Hoagy Carmichaels biggest hit, Stardust (originally spelled Star Dust). Years ago, some collectors liked the song so much that they endeavored to obtain every single recording that was made of it that they could lay their hands on! A local collector that I came to know in his later years was just such a man. He collected records of the song for many years, though not to the exclusion of anything else. (He liked Glen Grays Casa Loma Orchestra, so there are many of those in the collection, too, for example.) But Stardust was his biggest musical passion, and his collection includes the recordings of the song on 78, 45, and 33-1/3rd. Thanks to his beloved daughter, I am now the owner of the late mans entire record collection! The Stardust collection includes some of the earliest recordings of the song (i.e., pre-1932) as well as a good number of foreign 78s of it, mostly from Europe, though there may be some far-East ones too--I cant recall offhand. I may consign the collection to a professional record dealer. (I have already been in touch with him about all of this.) Or as an experienced dealer myself, I may sell the collection item-by-item on eBay, where I already have a sellers account. I have not yet made up my mind, although selling several thousand individual records would take a lot of time and effort, and I have enough other records (and sheet music) to sell that way anyway. So in the meantime, if there are any Stardust fans out there who might be interested in that part of the collection--especially if you live in the Northeast and would like to inspect it personally--I would be glad to hear from you! If no one is interested, I would dispose of these records in the usual way: Offering them individually, either through the broker or via eBay. But I thought that I would put this information out there, to see if there was any interest. The underlying thought was that, if someone wanted to buy the whole Stardust collection, that would be a good thing, because it would be unfortunate to have the collection broken up after it had been lovingly assembled for decades! But since I do not have that much emotional involvement myself, I shall be glad to go the other way if necessary, with the records being sold individually by artist. I have not yet pulled all of the Stardusts from the rest of the collection, so I cannot tell you exactly how many there are, but Ill be able to work on that soon if I get any favorable responses here. I may also put this info on one or more of the other 78 rpm fan pages. Thank you all for reading this. I have errands to run tomorrow, but will get back to anyone who responds as soon as possible.
