I am wondering whether or not to post this having spent a number - TopicsExpress

I am wondering whether or not to post this having spent a number of years in Thailand working and getting to know the people and the culture. When I first came to Pattaya, the Thai people were a kind, generous and friendly people who opened their hearts to the foreigner. They would go out of their way to make foreigners feel at home and they always had a smile on their faces (the land of smiles). This last trip that I took was to introduce a large investor into the Thai property market and I was shocked at the attitude of the Thai people from the moment that we tried to leave the airport. I hired a minivan to take my party from the airport to Pattaya and every person from the girl taking the booking to the guy that walked us to the van and everyone in between asked for a tip. They are paid to do a job but feel that they must ask the unwary traveller for more money in exchange for a poor service. My group of investors stayed for 4 days and I tried hard to show them what a beautiful country Thailand was. I showed them walking street and other wonderful attractions and everywhere we went, they Thai people had their hand out for a tip or a lady drink or some other form of unworthy gratuity. I will not promote Pattaya as fun city, I will not promote the Thai people as being the kind generous people that they are. Instead I will tell my friends to be wary of over tipping, to be careful and not give in to the relentless barrage of requests for money. instead treat the Thais as they treat you. I am sad to have to make this post as the Thai people outside of the tourist destinations are a truly beautiful people. I hope that the greed and nedd for money does not creep into rural Thailand.
