I am writing to gain your support for my petition which I launched on Wednesday. The Department for Transport (DfT) will run a competition next year to select a train operator to run a pilot on a busy commuter route into London so it can assess the benefits of fleixible ticketing. Flexible ticketing (including part time season tickets) will give passengers a better deal by reducing the money they spend on fares and will spread demand across the network by encouraging them to take less busy services. Reading Station and the surrounding rail infrastructure is currently benefitting from a £800M+ investment which is creating one of the busiest rail hubs in the UK. Reading is already the busiest commuter town to London with over 4.7 million season ticket journeys in 2012. With the modern infrastructure and high passenger volumes, a part-time season ticket trial between Reading and Paddington makes every sense. If part-time season tickets can work on this route, then the likelihood is they can work on any route. Reading commuters deserve an opportunity to get value for money and not pay for a full time season ticket when not utilising it every day. As an example, my ticket for the year now stands at over £4,700! This petition will encourage First Great Western to place a bid to win the operation of this trial and influence the DfT to select the bid. Please sign today (it takes seconds) and forward on to others. change.org/en-GB/petitions/select-the-reading-paddington-route-for-the-part-time-season-ticket-trial Many thanks for your time.
