I apologize for venting ... but recently a family member passed - TopicsExpress

I apologize for venting ... but recently a family member passed away and didnt realize that the police no longer allow processions unless it is the funeral of a policeman, fireman, city or county dignitary. I understand that it was discontinued because of city liability. This is the first procession that I have been a part of in several years. We followed the hearse from the church to the cemetery and not one car ever stopped or slowed down, in fact several passed us by. Stopping for a procession was a long time tradition of the south and especially our community. My fear is, now another southern tradition has passed us by. We were in a procession in Mobile a year ago and we were lead by police cars and they blocked busy intersections to allow us to pass by. There are many cities that still continue this longtime proud tradition. I would hope that those who serve in city government would consider this change and allow this as a service to those whove passed and be an honor for those who once supported them and their city.
