I appear to have won a gold-plated Dorito [0]. I got near the bottom of a bag, and out came something that was decidedly not a Dorito; it was a golden ticket proclaiming me the winner of a gold-plated Dorito. I was very surprised, because I rarely win things like this. Back when I worked at Hewlett-Packard, Shan and I would wander down to the sundry shop for a soda most afternoons, I went 33 Mountain Dews straight without getting one of the one-in-six-wins! bottle caps [1]. Im really good at not winning this sort of thing. So I gotta admit, when I looked at this ticket, I had a little bit of a Charlie Bucket moment. It passed quickly-- its just a golden Dorito and not a trip to the factory or something spectacular. And that is a very good thing: Oompa Loompas creep me out. [0] I say appear to because Ive got to call the phone number. Who knows what hoops Ill have to jump through for such a trinket thatll fetch me a buck or two on eBay? [1] Odds of 33 straight non-winners? .24%. Not 24%. point-two-four-percent.
