I ask a guest yesterday about her Thanksgiving plans. She began to name the menu that has become their tradition....included in that was gooseberry pie!! I didnt comment, but did take note. If I were to name what particular food makes Thanksgiving thanksgiving to me, Im not sure what Id say. There are some dishes that I just expect to show up....pumpkin pie, pecan pie, turkey and all its trimmings...cranberries, sweet potatoes, home made bread. I really think Thanksgiving to me is family and friends.. I do believe I could celebrate over a bologna sandwich, if need be, as long as there was a crowd, a lot of chaos and noise and laughter...a pile of shoes by the door...coats here and there, children underfoot...I just had a thought..Im not sure everyone would show up for a bologna sandwich!!! The traditional meal is important, whatever that meal includes for you and yours.... on another note, I dont think mine would show up for gooseberry pie either.. however they would show up for a day long marathon of eating, games and a household of utter disarray!!!
