I attended a Stone Sculpting Class today at Kirklees College tutored by Melanie Wilks -This is one of her works commissioned by The Lofthouse Residents Association and Leeds City Council. The slightly larger than life sculpture is carved from Yorkshire Sandstone and was quarried locally at Woodkirk. The Lofthouse Miner sculpture is a celebration of the history and heritage of the local community. The sculpture represents a coalface worker drilling the coal seam.
