I attended a professional development course today for work about critical thinking and problem solving. It was run by the EMA and was very good. There were 3 tables of 4 people. At my table were 3 of my direct work colleagues and a 22 yr old from another dept. She spent practically the whole day fiddling with her cellphone (when she wasnt fidgeting with the materials on the table). Every time she put the phone down, about 10 seconds would pass when she vaguely looked up with fake interest in the subject at hand, and then she would pick it up again. Like a serious addiction. This afternoon she proceeded to take a whole run of selfies (complete with pouty lipped, wide eyed poses). Right there. In front of us. While the presenter was talking to us. I find this behaviour unbelievably self centred, rude and disrespectful. She acted as though this was perfectly normal. Is this typical of that generation?! If so, I dont want anything to do with them. It was so awful to be around. Im going to try my damndest to ensure our children do not grow up thinking this is normal. Rant over.
