I attended the Service of Remembrance in Allonby village hall this afternoon. George Proud placed a Poppy Cross on behalf of the Fire service and David from Crewe one on behalf of the Merchant Navy. The little field of Remembrance was empty at first and then as each person placed their Poppy Cross in Remembrance it began to fill. It made me think of the war graves in France and Belgium, once that would have been fields that children played in and farmers worked now serving a different and more sombre purpose. Although not on the grand scale of London or Coventry with bands and march byes of Service personnel. The respect shown by each individual placing the crosses really made me proud to be British and even prouder of my Granddad and Dad who fought for this once great country in the 1st and 2nd World Wars. Thanks to all involved in the service you have shown what Remembrance day is all about. I wore my Poppy with great pride...............
