I awake to the sound of busyness all around me in the cave and notice that she who gives light in the sky has delayed her rays of everlasting light. The clan mother is preparing food this morning in the corner of heat and fire, in preparation of two very special visitors to our cave, my youngling Jasmine plays with Lilly the young Samoyed (almost six lunar cycles now) in expectation of these two young visitors who are coming to our cave from across the southern lands and from within the huge settlement on the banks of the River Thames. This is not only a visit, but more of an advance scouting trip for these two siblings, who are both in their eighth winter, they travel not alone, but with their carers and with elders of appropriate authority, to appraise that our cave can be a suitable dwelling for their expectant forever cave. They are to to be carried by the large bird that flies between settlements and we await their landing and short journey with eagerness and anticipation. After what seems an endless wait, I roll back the great stone that protects our cave and she who gives light forces the clouds above to part for but a few moments as her light lightens the path to our cave and the two expectant visitors arrive! As they dismount from their conveyance of choice and lay foot upon the ground, the first to break ranks from my clan is Lily (as I thought it would be) as she ran directly towards their tiny forms. We could see their eyes immediately light up and and they and Lily hugged as though they were long lost friends who have been parted for two long, this is truly an unexpected bonus, they and Lily seem to have a fondness only felt between children and young puppies. They already knew our names as they were informed beforehand and after politely greeting us they caught site of one of Jasmines exercise structures and immediately headed straight for the stretched skin we have suspended outside the cave with tall sticks surrounded by nets of safety and began their bounces of joy and exhilaration! It was as if they had always been here, is not a cave more happy when you can hear the sounds of younglings screaming and laughing with abandoned joy? We eventually ushered this traveling party into the warmth of our cave and offered them food and drinks to replenish their tired bones after such a long arduous journey. Looking at how quickly the slabs of food were being devoured especially by the two younglings, the clan mother and I looked at one another and I could see that she pleased that her preparation of food was so well received by all. No sooner than they had arrived then we were saying goodbye to the two younglings who were being returned to the temporary home in the southern settlement near the banks of the Thames. To be honest, neither child wanted to leave, but stay with us in their newly promised forever cave, but it had been agreed by the elders in authority, that they should return to their lands one more time and take in one more last festive holiday, prepare their farewells and say their goodbyes to friends and teachers before returning here to our cave to finally begin their life together with us under our care. The clan mother and I know that we may receive many gifts over the coming festive season that is fast approaching, but none will be more precious to our hearts then the footsteps of these two young siblings as they return back to our cave one last time to finally make the clan mother and I happy by calling our cave their forever cave.
