I awoke unusually early this morning to the beautiful, peaceful sound of much needed rain as it fell upon the metal roof and stirred the wind chimes outside my window. I lay still, eagerly anticipating the innate feeling of tranquility incessantly brought upon me by a storm. All too quickly, emptiness and sorrow invades my soul, annihilating any serenity that had began to emerge, and I am defeated even before I rise. My eyes foresake me as they force out hot tears, causing them to cascade down my cheeks and continue down on to the floor. Saddness selfishly consumes my heart snuffing out the joy that I had believed to be mine. The only gift afforded me is that teardrops are mistaken for raindrops on a day like today. Without further ado, I lower my head, reluctantly grab my raincoat, and walk outside amid the cold, wet, sobering rain. I take up my post and embrace my destiny, for Ive come to realize who and what I am.....for who but a fool stands out in the rain.
