I began my day biking through the early morning fog. Splitting it - TopicsExpress

I began my day biking through the early morning fog. Splitting it with my front wheel, it wafted around me--pinching back together off the back of my bike. I have found the hills again--steep, winding hills. Ohio has so much green though, I cannot complain. I was escorted into the Towpath, not 10 miles from Garys house. Despite his advice to avoid the weekend traffic on the trail, I continued anyway. Gary was a great host, offering dinner and breakfast, a shower and a king size bed. I was very pleased with my stay! The Towpath took me 15 miles to a farm stand, of course I stopped and acquainted myself with fresh peaches and tea. As the trail began to get busier, I decided to simply go east on the main road. Without a map. After all, its my trip--not Rand McNallys. This decision was rewarded while climbing a very steep hill. You headed to California? the cigar was flicked between his fingers, Or you headed East? I pulled into the mans driveway, and told him I was headed east, to Marthas Vineyard. No shit man! he turned to his car, I bought my car in Massachusetts, see the sticker? I forgot to get his name, but he was a great guy. He told me he was impressed, and he thought it was really cool and inspiring what Im doing. It feels awesome when total strangers appreciate my adventure. Can I get your photo? I put a thumbs up and grinned. Im gonna text my friend d and tell him out this, this is awesome dude. You rock. We did a modified hand shake, one you do with a good friend, where your hands meet at an angle, and you each have a bent elbow. I continued on to the grocery store--then I proceeded to eat with my eyes. So much so that a lady stopped at the table I was at, Thats a huge lunch kid. Well, if I dont eat how am I going to get across the united states? It was too much food though, but itll be lunch tomorrow as well. The last 25 miles of my day was great as well. I left the store and in about an hour a man (shoot, I forgot his name... Greg?) caught up to me on his bike. Turns out he biked across the US back in 1984! Naturally, we had a lot to talk about all of the sudden. He took me on his loop because it worked out with the direction I was headed. We talked and rode for maybe ten miles. It was awesome. When I left, clouds came rolling in. I them proceeded to outrun a tremendous amount of rain and constant lightning for 12 miles--finding shelter in a Dairy Queen, just when it got really bad. A lot of locals had gathered in there, and I became a hot topic because I had a bike helmet on. I skirted across the terential puddles to a motel, and now Im hunkered down. Its storming all night, and all day tomorrow. Well see if I get going by check out time.
