I began writing to Ryan shortly before he was born. Although I had intended to continue the writings on a regular basis, parenting was much more demanding than I would have ever thought and I stopped for a very long time...something that I really regret! However, I am so glad that I have these. They are especially comforting to me when he is traveling. I wrote the first one eight days before his birth. I hope you enjoy! My dearest Erin or Ryan, My original plans for this evening were to go to the department store to buy you some cradel sheets and and other last minute necessities for you nursery. But I dont feel so very well and think that I might should stay close to home. I feel as if your birth is close; your due date is only nine days away, and the doctor says you could come at any time. The fear and apprehension I felt a month ago has subsided. Now, Im just anxious to hold you in my arms. I can barely hold back the tears as I write to you. It seems that Ive waited so long for you...forever! The nine months have gone by relatively quickly, actually. Your mother has seen her youthful figure that she had worked so hard to preserve go by the wayside. Ive gained about 23 pounds, and sit here eating Oreos as I write! You must like them because they have triggered your activity somewhat. Ill be glad when you finally arrive but I will miss the closeness that I feel with you inside of me. I talk to you often,...do you hear me? I promise to try to be a good parent to you. Your father and I are responsbile for bringing you into this crazy, mixed up world...we will never abandon you. You will make mistakes...we will allow you to make them. We will nurture you and give you the tools you need to learn from your own experiences and try to not overly protect you. I look forward to our days in the park, at the zoo, and/or at the baseball fields, piano recitals or dance lessons. You will have a lot of people who will love you in a very special way because you are an importand and precious part of their lives, as well as ours. Many people have brought gifts who hardly know us. They have done this because they want to share the joy and love that they know we are feeling. I hope you know how much you are wanted. Enjoy your life to its fullest and take advantage of all of Gods gifts. We love you.
