I being the nosy thorn in the ass kind of person I am, called social security today to inquire about the government shutdown effect on payments to people on social security, she told me that there will be no delay in payments and there will be employees that will have to come in to push the button to make the payments. I asked about the Medicare changes that will effect everyone on Medicare, they have yet to be informed on any changes and referred me to call the Medicare contractor to see if they had any answers. I called them and they said that the required things will go into effect on October first and we will find out later in October, probably when the cost of living increase is announced, what the increase of premiums will be for Medicare. She said there will more than likely be an increase in premiums on Medicare Part A and B and the Part D and supplemental insurance. I wonder if the cost of living increase will cover the Medicare increases and if the tax credits apply to this too.
