I believe it is called shear wind: Wind shear refers to a change - TopicsExpress

I believe it is called shear wind: Wind shear refers to a change in wind speed or direction with height in the atmosphere. Wind shear can also refer to a rapid change in winds over a short horizontal distance experienced by aircraft... In any event, I felt like I was in Kansas and about to be blown to Oz last night. I was speaking with my mom on the phone when all of a sudden I hear what sounded like a train, the wind picks up, rain starts pelting the earth and buckets were literally blowing thru my windows. My curtains flew off the windows...it was wild. I thought we were in the middle of a hurricane or tornado. Anyway, at this point the farm is inaccessible except by foot. We have trees, electrical wires and fencing strewn everywhere. Here are some photos of what the property looks like as of this 4th of July morning!
