I believe that building the capacity for citizens to engage in civil, civic discourse is a good governance strategy. One of the questions that comes up around building this capacity in our community has to do with what skills do people need in order to engage in civil, civic discourse. In my opinion, emotional intelligence is one of the capacities we all need to cultivate as individuals. What does cultivating that capacity look like? One example is Toolbox, a remarkable program that helps children develop their emotional intelligence, their skills set in working with difficult people and challenging circumstances. I invite you to listen to these young people talk about the tools in their Toolbox and how they are using them to deal with the bullies they encounter.
